Alamo Drafthouse to Open in Circle C

Somehow I missed this, but a friend of mine who works in the film industry just told me that Alamo Drafthouse is planning on opening a new theater in Circle C. It will be their largest theater yet with at least 8 screens. It will also be able to play 3-D movies.

Here is the ABJ article from last year.

  1. I had heard this rumor…glad you posted the ABJ article. The theater will be a great addition to the area. I know I will see a few movies there once it is open

  2. That is thrilling news for the residents in the Circle C area!

  3. It be a great addition to Circle C. Not to mention the spin offs – including the jobs for the younger set!

  4. My travel companion is interested in going to one of the Alamo Drafthouses in Austin next month while we are there for SXSW. Neither of us have been to Austin before and are wondering if there was a certain Drafthouse we should go to (downtown?) or if the the locations were comparable and we should just pick a movie.

  5. Embroidery: Since you are in Austin for SXSW I would imagine you like the audio and visual arts and are probably both a little more adventurous than just the commercial mass media films. If this is the case then you should stick to either the Alamo Drafthouse downtown (6th St.) since this has the benefit of being right in the middle of downtown surrounded by bars and restaurants; the other would be the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. It’s very close to downtown and they also have a more eclectic choice of movies. The South Lamar location has the added bonus of being located next to the Alamo Drafthouse founder’s new endeavor, Highball, which is a restaurant, bar, bowling alley and also has karaoke rooms. The Anderson Village theater also shows cool films but it’s mush farther (10min) from downtown and a car is required to get there. Short story is if you want to stay downtown then the Alamo on 6th St or South Lamar. If there is a film you must see at Anderson Village location then jump in a cab or if you have a rental car then you’re all set. Have fun. Enjoy Austin.
