There are many new laws taking effect September 1st. Many of them will effect you, especially if you have children. Here are a few of the highlights:
- All passengers of a vehicle are required to wear a seat belt, even if in the backseat.
- Any child younger than 8 years of age must be in a child passenger safety seat unless the child is at least 4 feet, 9 inches in height.
- It will be illegal to talk on a cell phone in a school zone unless you are stopped or are using a hands-free device. This one will be optionally enforced by the city or county.
For more information regarding these and many other new laws, read the press release from the Texas DPS

Love the seatbelt and cell phone law! Even though I am always in the car and talking on the phone, it is all about safety!
Did you hear about the Senate extending the $8,000 home buyer tax credit?
Those seem like reasonable laws to me!
I agree, all seem like good laws; nothing to strict or unwarranted. Although I’m guilty of driving and texting, I’m hoping that becomes illegal soon too. Just too many incidents of teens and accidents.
I am completely ok with these laws. They do seem thought out and beneficial to the cummunity as a whole. I would support this in my local community as well.
These laws make sense and I’m starting to see more of these in my local community as well. Thankfully my new car has a built in blue tooth system which I’m starting to see is a more safe option.
Jayson I’ve also been guilty of texting while driving it’s something that I’m vowing to end as it’s so unsafe.
I am quite satisfied with these laws because these are relevant to our safety.
I agree with cell phone law.
I’ll have to say that I completely agree with #3. Funny how when I was younger I always thought that more rules meant more control, but after having kids of my own (and realizing that with new technology (texting on phones), new rules must follow) I am now changing my tune…
Sounds reasonable to me as well. Glad to see laws based on common sense.
I really appreciate these laws. These laws based on our safety. I would like to read some more relevant to this post. Thanks for sharing with us.

The cell phone law I can understand, as using a cell phone can put the lives of OTHER PEOPLE in danger. The mandatory seat belt law for all passangers is, to me a joke and a complete encroachment on personal liberties by our government. Listen to what you are saying. “I like this law.” “It is for our safety.” I personally reject the idea that our government should be telling us how to take care of our own bodies.

At first I viewed the seat belt law as an encroachment on personal liberties, but now I see it a little differently. Before seat belt laws were enforced in my state, I used them only when I felt it was necessary. Truth is, they are always necessary. Since the law was enacted, it has become an unbreakable habit to buckle up for me and I am glad it is. I have been in more than one situation where a sealt belt has kept me from becoming seriously injured.
I agree with Lou, But i drive a really big truck. I still listen to the ding all the time.
Yes i am happy about these laws getting implemented. It’s all about our safety.talking over the phone is quite distracting while driving so its better to stop and talk if the call is so important.
Those seem like reasonable laws to me. The only one I question is the adult seat belt laws. I figure if you are an adult and you don’t want to wear one, we probally want you out of the reproduction pool anyways.
If for the safety and goodness of all then I will support that new law being implemented.
Thanks so much for this link. I like being up to date about interesting law changes, such as these.
Using cell phones while driving is prohibited here in Dubai. But I’m not sure with the first 2 laws coz see a lot of children not using their seat belts or worst they are sitting in front seat with their parent.
Those new laws are great! 🙂 No prob with me, I know it’s for our safety.
Thankfully my new car has a built in blue tooth system which I’m starting to see is a more safe option.

The new cell phone laws are good for the children but I’m not too sure I like the seat belt law. I know it will save lives but it is just another way the gov gets to force new laws on us.
All seems like good laws and we must follow them because these are relevant to our safety.
seat belts are very important, they have saved the lives of 3 of my friends. I think its a great decision
Nice article.commenting theme related blog is more benefit for getting organic visitors.
This is really a useful post. I appreciate the new Laws. Finally something for the children. Hope we all going to follow them. Nice Job. Keep it up.
An informative blog! This should be supported by people. Thus, we are the ones who benefits the law and we ust obey for us to be safe.
All good laws that will hopefully save lives. Our area recently passed a no texting while driving law…if the vehicle is running, it’s now a no-no…even sitting at a red light or in the drive-thru at McDonalds.
